My editor, who was taken by the flashbacks to Scout's childhood, persuaded me to write a novel from the point of view of the young Scout. In witnessing the trial of Tom Robinson, a black man unfairly accused of rape, Scout, the narrator, gains insight into her town, her family, and herself. It features the character known as Scout as an adult woman and I thought it a pretty decent effort. To Kill a Mockingbird tells the story of the young narrator’s passage from innocence to experience when her father confronts the racist justice system of the rural, Depression-era South. 3, 2015, HarperCollins announced it was publishing a second book by Lee titled "Go Set a Watchman."
